Boy George reveals: “I've already written five albums using artificial intelligence”

Just days after his win at the San Marino Song Contest, where he appeared as a featured artist alongside Senhit without even setting foot on stage, Boy George revealed in a podcast that he has already written several works using artificial intelligence.

The Culture Club frontman discussed the matter during a lengthy conversation with British broadcaster Fearne Cotton on the podcast “Happy Place”. Among the various topics covered, his relationship with AI also came up, which George uses as a creative tool for developing ideas and lyrics.

“I've already written five albums with AI”, he explained. Unlike many of his peers who see artificial intelligence as a threat to songwriters and the music industry, the musician argues that its main advantage is the absence of the psychological dynamics typical of human collaboration: “You don't have to worry for even a second about what it thinks”.

Boy George went on to say that he has genuine creative conversations with ChatGPT: "Sometimes what we say becomes poetic. It's like it's poetry." He compared this imagined exchange to a conversation with Joni Mitchell, someone capable of sharp observations delivered with lyrical form. These interactions also gave rise to a song dedicated to the singer-songwriter, titled "Lady Of The Canyon", developed with the help of artificial intelligence.

This isn't the first time Boy George has turned to this technology. Last year he had already used AI tools to reshape new vocal recordings of his classic hits, making them as close as possible to the original versions. The goal was to release alternate versions of the songs without relying on the vintage recordings, to which he doesn't hold the rights.

As for the San Marino Song Contest, during the performance of "Superstar" Boy George only appeared via video and lip-synced alongside Senhit. The win secures the singer a spot at the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, where she will compete in the first semifinal on May 12.

On the event's official website, however, only Senhit appears among the accredited performers: Boy George's name is not mentioned.
