Boards Of Canada, a comeback close at hand? The mysterious signals in a VHS tape sent to fans

08-04-2026

Signs of life from planet Boards Of Canada. Yesterday several fans began reporting, on the Twoism forum and on Reddit, that they'd received mysterious VHS tapes in the mail marked with the Scottish duo's trademark hexagonal logo. Meanwhile, the item has also turned up on Discogs, where it's attributed to Warp Records, the historic label that has always been tied to the group. Predictably, the audio contained on the tape was quickly extracted and shared online (you can listen to it below).

However, what emerges from the amateur so-called “rips” is anything but revealing: no musical track at all, just a little over a minute of fragmented, distorted voices immersed in grainy background noise. The accompanying video material stays on similarly cryptic ground, with blurry images and sequences that are hard to decipher.

The strategy closely recalls the promotional campaign used for “Tomorrow's Harvest” back in 2013, when mysterious vinyl records and hidden codes preceded the release of that very album.

There has been no official confirmation from Warp or the group that this is teasing a new record. If it were, it would still mark Boards Of Canada's return to recording after more than ten years since their last album,
