Alva Noto and Christian Fennesz in concert in Italy to celebrate Ryuichi Sakamoto

08-03-2026

Alva Noto and Christian Fennesz will perform together in Italy with their project “Continuum – In the spirit of Ryuichi Sakamoto“, a tribute to the legendary Japanese composer. The duo's only scheduled show in our country will take place on April 8th at the Teatro Comunale in Vicenza.

Carsten Nicolai, aka Alva Noto, is one of the most authoritative figures in contemporary electronic music. Across more than twenty-five albums he has built a path spanning sonic research, visual art and film composition. Among the best-known chapters of his career are his collaborations with Ryuichi Sakamoto and his contribution to the soundtrack of “The Revenant” by Alejandro González Iñárritu, Oscar-nominated in 2015.

Alongside him, Vienna-based Christian Fennesz, a central figure in the development of glitch music and one of the first to integrate the guitar into a digital electronic language. His work has helped redefine the timbral possibilities of the instrument and shift the boundary between electronic composition and melodic sensibility, earning him widespread recognition from international critics over the years.

The project was born as a tribute to Ryuichi Sakamoto (Tokyo, 1952–2023), one of the most influential composers and musicians of the contemporary scene, with whom both artists shared important collaborations. Founder of the Yellow Magic Orchestra and author of soundtracks that have gone down in cinema history, such as “Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence” and “The Last Emperor,” Sakamoto moved effortlessly across different musical languages, from electronics to orchestral music, earning awards such as the Oscar, Golden Globe and BAFTA.

With “Continuum” the stage becomes a space where sound performance and visual dimension merge. Sound, images and set design build an immersive environment that puts today's electronic research in dialogue with Sakamoto's artistic legacy. The Vicenza event is the only Italian date of this project, conceived as an uninterrupted journey through memory, experimentation and new sonic perspectives.
