Afghan Whigs return after four years with the new track "House Of I": watch the video

The Afghan Whigs resurface with a new single, “House Of I”, their first new material since 2022. The track, released via Royal Cream/BMG, marks a return that goes straight to the most recognizable essence of the band led by Greg Dulli.

The sound is built on a dense web of elements: a sinister-toned choir, tight percussion and an insistent piano riff, over which sharp guitars and a tense, controlled vocal are layered, with Dulli clearly in fine form.

“House of I” was produced and mixed by Dulli himself together with Christopher Thorn. It was recorded at Marigny Sound in New Orleans, then completed at Fireside Sound in Joshua Tree. “We cut it in New Orleans last summer,” Dulli explained. “I wanted something fast, a real banger, and I think we pulled it off.”

The release of the track has reignited attention on a possible new album. Their last studio work, “How Do You Burn?” (2022), had consolidated the American band's post-reunion path: a record born in the thick of the pandemic, steeped in isolation and tension, in which their familiar blend of soul and rock was reworked through psychedelic textures and electronic inserts. Rather than chasing trends, the Afghan Whigs kept refining a personal language, marked by the passage of time and a persistent emotional unease.
