From The Weeknd to Mogwai, from Manic Street Preachers to The Lathums: the most interesting new releases

The Weeknd – “São Paulo” (Ft. Anitta)

During a special concert in São Paulo, Brazil, in September,

The Weeknd and Brazilian popstar Anitta presented a new song titled “São Paulo.” The track has now been officially released, along with a video directed by Freeka Tet. In the video, Anitta appears masked and pregnant for a kind of “body horror”. Watch the video below.

Mogwai – “Lion Rumps”

Mogwai announce their eleventh studio album, “The Bad Fire”, born from a collaboration with John Congleton, who has already worked with St. Vincent, Angel Olsen, John Grant, and recorded at Chem19 Studios in Scotland. The new work, which carries forward the Scottish quartet's sonic evolution, is already available for pre-order and pre-save in a wide range of formats, spanning from a refined box set to black and clear Lp editions, cd, and even cassette. As a preview, Mogwai have released “Lion Rumpus”, a single accompanied by a video directed by longtime collaborator Antony Crook, who has already worked with the band on the documentary “Mogwai: If The Stars Had A Sound”. Manic Street Preachers – “Hiding In Plain Sight”

Almost three and a half years after their previous “The Ultra Vivid Lament”, Manic Street Preachers are ready to return with their fifteenth studio album, titled “Critical Thinking”, out January 31st on Columbia Records/Sony Music. The single “Hiding In Plain Sight”, which anticipates the album, reveals an unexpected classic rock streak. The band describes the track as a tribute to the Seventies rock'n'roll of The Only Ones and Cockney Rebel, with a relaxed groove that recalls the free-flowing feel of “Freak Scene” by Dinosaur Jr. You can listen to it below:

Lathums – “Stellar Cast”

The Lathums, the Wigan rock band who have made a name for themselves with a sound rooted in British tradition and a deep lyrical sensibility, will return with their third album, “Matter Does Not Define”, out March 7th, 2025. To mark the new album, the band will embark on a UK and Ireland tour in 2025, with dates expected next year that will bring the Lathums back into contact with their audience, paying tribute to the live dimension that has always been an essential part of their appeal. The single “Stellar Cast”, released this week, is a taste that reaffirms the band's ability to blend intimacy with bursts of energy. Listen to it below:
