Komarov Magnificent Backflip

A garage-punk band based in Bologna, born in a damp basement in the San Donato district in 2021 and currently made up of Riccardo Affaticato (vocals and guitar), Francesco Tramuto (bass), Thomas Anderson (guitar and keyboards) and Francesco Rodante (drums). The band takes its name from Vladimir Komarov, the Russian cosmonaut who lost his life on the Soyuz-1 space mission, a flight he volunteered for in place of his friend Yuri Gagarin, sensing the dangers it posed; this is also the origin of the group's motto: "a tribute to failure, sacrifice and friendship".

Recorded in a suburban rehearsal room and strictly self-produced, the eight tracks on the debut "Fingerblaster" (2023) show real promise, moving comfortably between garage frenzy, surf guitars, synth-punk flourishes and the occasional detour into krautrock and post-rock, with particular care taken over how it translates to the live setting. Between gigs around Italy, in 2024 the quartet wins the selection process for "La Zona D'Ombra" run by Bronson Recordings; in the summer of 2025 they take part in the collective project "Let's Put Our Hearts Together: Tributo a Brian Wilson", contributing their own version of "Little Honda", while in 2026, now officially signed to Bronson, they release the standalone single "Better Fat Than Sad" in February and the sophomore effort "Cop Days" in early May.
