SEEFEEL - Sol.Hz

2026 (Warp)
ambient dub

Released on Warp, "Sol.Hz" is the first Seefeel album after fifteen years of silence on the long playing format. The title translates literally as sun plus electricity, but it leaves a hazy ambiguity that underpins the band's return: a surrealist becoming of stretched-out chords and elusive harmonies rooted in shoegaze. The album is arranged as ambient at full pressure, and on a suitable system subterranean basses emerge, creating an altered, suffocating atmosphere. The real protagonist, though, is the percussive dub soul, which marks all the low and mid frequencies with surgical precision - a presence that grows ever more abrasive track after track.

The hits appear fragmented, almost random; when they emerge, they destabilize. Over this irregular rhythm move Mark Clifford's synthetic architectures, Sarah Peacock's candid voice and her processed guitars. The synths oscillate between multiple microclimates: a nod to the IDM tradition that made them pioneers, and the creation of atmosphere - cathartic or enigmatic - rather than defined melody. Peacock's guitar moves between feedback and effects that sublimate the airy and the claustrophobic, while her singing proceeds in alternating steps, giving way to the instrument and its reverberations.

Compared to previous works, "Sol.Hz" moves decisively at the slow tempo of ambient dub. The record's strength lies in finding a balance between telluric materiality and the ineffability of nocturnal suggestions, whose intensity builds up through stratification rather than development. In this dense, aquatic landscape, "Falling First" stands out with its graceful, ascetic sequence, almost like ambient house over seismic tremors - one of the few luminous openings on a record that prefers shadow to light. Seefeel find their measure in a suspended, corporeal electronica that never stops seeking new equilibriums.
