THE MON - Songs Of Embrace

2026 (Supernatural cat)
ambient, doom

The Mon is the solo project of Urlo, vocalist, bassist and keyboardist of Ufomammut, the pride of Italian doom. Active since 2018 with the debut "Doppelleben", The Mon's "Songs Of Embrace" closes an ideal double album following the release, just a few months ago, of "Songs Of Abandon".

Two albums that form a bizarre diptych: inseparably linked to one another yet, at the same time, very different – the first acoustic and sung, the second electronic and instrumental – they nonetheless represent two sides of the same coin: that of the author's long journey through solitude and despair, in which he sought a kind of resolution through this stream of consciousness capable of making the malaise bearable.

This unified thirty-eight-minute flow (the ten tracks should be understood as a single listening experience) demands total surrender across a path marked by various contaminations. At times, anything-but-static ambient textures dominate ("Invocation Of The Abyss", "Three Nails, One Heart"), charged instead with tension and unease. The doom distortions of "The Sigil" connect back to the roots of Ufomammut, while the acoustic post-rock guitars of "Incantation" recall the desolate, poetic sound of Labradford. The minimal piano work of "A Pearlescent Pulse Of Light", meanwhile, may remind more attentive listeners of the early (i.e. best) records by Library Tapes.

These journeys through solitude seek a solution, finding it only in writing and composing songs meant to serve as the soundtrack to accepting suffering. Embracing surrender ("Embrace The Abandon") might be the therapy: living alongside electronic pulses that are undeniably unsettling, yet still proof of a life lived to the fullest.
