POWER SNATCH - EP1

2026 (Self-released)
indie-rock, trip-hop

After her debut solo album – "Ego Death At A Bachelorette Party", released in August 2025 – Hayley Williams, the voice of Paramore, returns to making music away from her band. This time she's doing it alongside Daniel James, the multi-instrumentalist and producer behind this brief EP, which kicks off her new project called "Power Snatch".

Williams's four new songs trace a short journey through her inner life, moving up and down through a microcosm made of warm and icy climates. The expansive spaces and ethereal guitars of "DMs" recall the indie-pop of Boygenius and Soccer Mommy, but it's clear from the start that Williams has no intention of keeping a steady course. The stubborn, repetitive keyboards of "DUH" already blow in from a different direction, carrying with them the scent of the Nineties. "I think about menopause and my sex life", sings Williams, who seems to have turned into a contemporary version of Lisa Germano. But it only lasts a few moments.

"Hole In The Ceiling" carries traces of trip-hop and the boldness of FGA twigs's art-pop, with distant echoes of jazz horns recalling the electro-pop of Fyfe (some might remember the gorgeous "For You").

Finally comes the cold moment, the one belonging to Williams's more detached emotional pole. This time she sounds like a frozen Cassandra Jenkins, surrounded by a mechanical haze of techno and industrial. The spoken word remains, but the tone is listless, mirroring an apathy that, in the end – fortunately and paradoxically – proves redemptive, soothing the pains of a tormented heart ("The feelings, what I'm singing, let me feel in peace").

Hayley Williams's latest artistic outing may be slight, but only in terms of quantity. Overlooking it would be a real shame.
