OPEN TO THE SEA - Beyond The Emotional Flood

2026 (Secret Lovers)
electroacoustic

The story of Open To The Sea began in 2017. Born as an occasional collaboration between Enrico Coniglio and Matteo Uggeri, it turned into a stable parallel project that took its name from that first building block. Starting with “Ten Rooms Under The Sea”, released in late 2023, the project became a trio with the addition of Saverio Rosi.

“Beyond The Emotional Flood” is the seventh product of this synergy, and it continues to speak in that distinctive electroacoustic vocabulary explored and refined with the help of numerous outside contributors. It's a sound inclined toward emotional weight, built on a measured intersection of melodic textures and ambient flows that here take on an intimate code born from the personal upheavals experienced by the three musicians. It's a drama in four acts reflecting on life and death, tenderness and lust, journeys, secrets, and much more, all while maintaining a coherent signature capable of adapting to the different moods being pursued.
A shifting, ever-changing flow, embedded even within individual tracks, as shown by the opener “From A Flood Of Despair To Lightness (None Is Indispensable)”, whose opening hiss blossoms into a guitar phrase, stalls on a narrating voice, then picks back up combining with an unexpected rhythmic pattern all the way to its slow final fade-out. Harmony and an irregular undercurrent merge, converging toward electric drifts where the elegant songwriting of David Sylvian and the deep shadows of the 4AD imprint remain clearly present. And there's still the post-rock rarefaction in the style of Rachel's, along with that dreamlike dimension that has been the project's trademark since its debut, always perfectly echoed in the cover artwork.

It's a sound that unwinds patiently, built on the instrumental flows of Coniglio and Rosi, cracked and reshaped by Uggeri's touch, ready to become an enigmatic narrative even though it's anything but abstract. Because at the root of it all lies a real feeling, a lived experience that, through music, tries to become memory and something to move past. A flood of sensations that doesn't overwhelm or sweep you away, but invites you to take part.
