LA SÉCURITÉ - Bingo!

2026 (Bella union)
dance-punk, post-punk

Over the past decade, post-punk has sometimes taken itself terribly seriously, trading urgency for posturing, tension for aesthetics, or turning alienation into a trademark. Bingo!, the second album from Montréal collective La Sécurité, is here to remind us of a very simple truth: you have to know how to have fun.

The coordinates are familiar (no wave, egg-punk, new wave, synth-punk) but they're constantly warped by tempo shifts, crooked melodies, polyrhythms and arrangements that always seem on the verge of collapse without ever actually falling apart. Ten tracks where everything coexists in a balance that's as precarious as it is irresistible. It's a record that's always running, but it knows exactly where it's going. Motion itself is the real protagonist here, with the bass dragging every song along with an almost unhinged force, guitars chasing each other and synths flickering in and out. The production, recorded almost entirely live, retains a rare physicality: it feels like watching five people discover the songs at the very moment they're playing them.

“Snack City” opens the record with an unstoppable groove, turning an obsession with food into a Dadaist manifesto. “Deny” bends the crooked funk of Talking Heads toward a more abrasive tension, while “Power Snoozer” tackles mental health with irony and an almost claustrophobic energy. “Princesse” only appears to slow down, revealing a more atmospheric side without ever losing that constant sense of instability. Then come “Bingo”, an irresistible celebration of the vitality of old age, and “Ketchup”, a noisy, delirious closer that seems to implode just as it finds its balance.

The album's strength lies in its smart lightness. La Sécurité tackle female autonomy, toxic relationships, everyday anxiety and contemporary banality without turning every topic into a manifesto. They prefer sarcasm, absurdity and the immediacy of speed. It's music that thinks without ever stopping moving.
“Bingo!” doesn't reinvent the language of art-punk, but it gives back something that had seemed lost in recent years: the pleasure of chaos, humor and collective energy.
