ETTA - Queste cose sono io

2026 (B music)
pop rock, punk

Maria Antonietta Di Marco, aka Etta, is a very young singer-songwriter from Caserta who took her first steps in 2017 with an aggressive, direct pop-rock sound. She also made a name for herself in the mainstream music world, taking part in Sanremo Giovani and X Factor in 2021. Having come through both of those experiences, Etta managed not to get swallowed up by the meat-grinder mechanics of talent shows, going on to build a musical career that has, over the years, progressively broken free from the siren calls of conformity capable of both launching and destroying so many emerging artists.

In 2022 she made her debut with the EP "Stress", which already contained a blend of punk and pop-rock that she herself dubbed extreme pop. "Scemi e contenti" (2024) then clarified her favourite themes, taking aim at a society anaesthetised in the face of evil, indifferent to all suffering and interested solely in its own pleasure. After an album made up of six covers and one original track ("Game Cover", 2025), she released "Queste cose sono io", an LP that marks a notable evolution, both in the greater variety of musical influences (for instance, the riff reminiscent of Rammstein on "Siamo il silenzio") and in the depth of the lyrics, the fruit of a commendable awareness of the state Western society finds itself in.

"Queste cose sono io" is thus, as the title makes clear, a deeply autobiographical work, in which the artist bares herself in front of listeners, showing her own anger and fragility without any filter. From the critique of the record industry in "Parapappa" to the attack on the world of pseudo-journalism in "Tutto Fake" (featuring Pierpaolo Capovilla), all the way to the assault on Western politics, of which Trump is the emblem, in "Nobel", Etta shows a remarkable ability to see past propaganda and turn her music into a tool for denunciation and reflection, helping to awaken the conscience of a society that has fallen asleep: an increasingly rare quality among young contemporary musicians.
If hedonism, money, sex and the good life represent the dominant myths for much of the trap scene, Etta stands as an important exception, showing a remarkable ability to read events without settling for the more comfortable versions served up by television ("Tutto Fake").

The album's highest points come in the triptych made up of "Queste cose sono io", "Non sento niente" and "Mi fa schifo tutto oggi", genuine psychoanalysis sessions in which the singer-songwriter tears down every barrier between herself and the audience, exposing herself with no protection whatsoever. "Non sento niente" in particular also reveals a surprisingly versatile voice, capable of reaching high notes that Etta had not yet explored with such conviction in her previous work. Three mature songs that can be read as a manifesto for the condition of part of her generation, adrift in a world dominated by social media and television, tools that have accustomed us to watching wars and genocides every day without them stirring any emotional reaction, as if they were mere entertainment. In this context, numbing oneself can seem like one of the few ways to survive; screaming out one's rage and sense of powerlessness through distorted guitars, in an attempt to rouse dormant consciences, is a far braver and more worthwhile choice.
