BLUAGATA - Fra la violenza e la gentilezza

2026 (Otorecords)
alt-rock

"L'amore e la violenza" was, a few years back, a double album released by Baustelle, which brought electropop back to the centre of the discourse led by Francesco Bianconi's band. Tuscan like Baustelle, but hailing from Prato, Bluagata have now reached their fourth album, and in 2026 they too commit their own essay on duality to record — albeit embracing an alt-rock attitude with a decidedly guitar-driven edge. Alternating scratches and caresses, the five musicians deliver a dense, theatrical work: fourteen tracks steeped in rage and vulnerability, a journey into the deepest recesses of the human soul, lingering to explore that no-man's-land separating two opposites — violence and gentleness, precisely.

There's a constant tension animating every track, a staged representation of an outright act of heroic resistance against an increasingly cynical and brutal world. Streaks of post-punk and darkwave elements round out the stylistic mix, centred on distorted guitars (played by Folco Vinattieri, while the rhythm section is led by Federico Masi and Lorenzo Mattei) and brooding synths. It's a telluric sound of great impact, capable of conjuring claustrophobic atmospheres while also opening up into cathartic choruses, with the true emotional core to be found in the voices of Alessia Masi and Margherita Bencini, who move with great naturalness from confidential whispers to rock fervour, perfectly embodying the duality of the title.

The narrative side, laid out in an almost cinematic fashion, sketches scenes of lived experience, psychological breakdowns, spiritual rebirths. The violent component overflows in the more driving tracks, when the band pounds hard on the table of social taboos, frustration and inner rage, with music becoming both weapon and shield at once. The gentle component, meanwhile, emerges in the darker ballads and in those moments when the album "breathes," letting sweetness and melancholy rise to the surface. Intimate confessions, scattered memories, unspeakable moments, small portraits of universal everyday life.
Look for the violent side first of all in the opening one-two of "La luce in casa"/"Danza con me" and further on in the propulsive "Wow" and "Pesanti"; the gentler side in three memorable acts: "Nuvola," "Figli" and the closing "Promesse." In between, everything else, starting with "Loop," with its knack for melodies that stick in your head for days, and "Tutto quello che mi manca," which perfectly hits the band's aim of mediating between its two souls: violence and gentleness.
