A band with a fairly established history by now, at least as far as the scene in its home country and surrounding area is concerned, Black Sea Dahu here present perhaps their most ambitious record, conceived as a way of processing grief for a parent during a long creative retreat among the mountains and woods of Flims. At times, the album inevitably recalls the mood and style of the "retreat album" par excellence, "For Emma".

The band's folk-rock is very "classic", without much of the reworkings born out of the 1990s approach of Midlake ("Ruth") or Other Lives ("One Day Will Be All I Have"), but it finds great inspiration here, both in the songwriting and in the arrangements, conjuring fairy-tale settings that open up the listening experience to inner landscapes waiting to be explored ("My Dreams", "The Dragon").

This ties in with an emotional involvement perhaps previously unknown to the band (the title track, in the vein of Jeff Buckley), finding in “Ants On The Wall” one of their own "signature" songs – let's call it their own “Impossible Germany“, as the Cline-esque solo makes clear.

Despite the premises and the conditions under which the album was made, the songs ultimately convey the sense of catharsis and resolution that was perhaps intended, through immersion in nature and in others. Mission accomplished.
