In the ever-varied landscape of Tuscan indie-rock, the very young Acustica are also making their mark: a band from Pisa formed in 2015, who arrived in the autumn of 2017 at their recording debut on Beng! Dischi. Despite the name, the triangular line-up made up of Andrea Ciurli (guitars, vocals), Marco Marino (bass, backing vocals) and Giovanni Macchi (drums, percussion) moves skilfully through eight dynamic, electric tracks, helped along by Nicola Barghi's efficient production work.

Beneath the iceberg that dominates the cover art, then, lies a sonic exploration that moves away from the mere acoustic surface element which, while never disappearing, is weighed down by ever-shifting sounds, whether closer to metal explosions ("Sparirò"), funky digressions ("Basta e avanza"), or moments recalling the crossover made in Italy of Linea 77 ("Sempre peggio").

It's a rock sound with strong nostalgic overtones, reviving a passion for Nineties music that has never quite faded, as in the raw ballads of "La pioggia e il resto", "Domani" or "Un cane". The record closes with the instrumental "Hum", which flows on into the evocative title track with its cyclical, measured rhythms.

It's precisely in this last track that we find the best promise for the future of a young band still searching for its own identity.
