I have this image of a night landing over the Bosphorus, the plane slightly ahead of schedule tracing a figure eight over some millennia of transits, of ships, of people, of buildings raised and destroyed, of patches of colour and the smell of fish, of lamb, of spices, as if stuck to your skin. Even washing won't take the smell away, you have to get away from that crossroads to chase it off, and every time the memories come back, so does that strange itch in your nostrils.
A chaotic world made of steps between West and East, a naturally centrist bridge that draws in, from thousands of kilometres away, China, Mongolia, the Indies, Berber eyes and blond hair, Hungarian names, Western embassies well past their decadence, a West losing every north and every west as it sets foot in the tremendous crossroads of everything. A crossroads that slips away every second from anyone trying to frame it, backdrops that seem fake, extremisms that know where to anchor their reasons, weakness before the gigantism of the past, before the new skyscrapers, before the neckties.
There is no poem or prose, no language that can be spoken to everyone, every building block within its own orbit of shouts, meditations and the strenuous defence of the little one can try to hold on to for oneself. Galata unites and divides, piers like slaughterhouses of thoughts, the heavy gaze of an elsewhere waiting just a few minutes across a sea that has stood still forever, disfigured by the tentacles of need, by the collective breath pressing ever further toward the centre of this transit.
A visionary excursion. Dub, solid ambient, techno in its most sculptural form, between self-recycling, invention and reinforcement. "Silent World" is a far-off mysticism, a mantra of boredom and tension, capture and release, the expansion of everything Echospace has ever meant.
