SMART COPS - Per proteggere e servire

2011 (La tempesta)
punk'n'roll

Judging by the cover, they could be the Crime. Then “Realtà cercami” takes off like a rocket and other punk bands come rushing back to mind, starting with the somewhat similar faces of the Ramones and ending with the (fill in the blank with any name from the New York punk scene...). Formed in 2007, Smart Cops (former With Love member Nicolò Fortuni on vocals, Marco Rapisarda on bass, Edoardo Vaccari on guitar and Matteo Vallicelli on drums) have a blast rattling their instruments, surfing at breakneck speed on “Vesciche in guerra”, echoing the Hives on the single “Il cattivo tenente” and certain frenzied parodies of Black Flag or Dead Kennedys on “Facile Bersaglio”.

Rock-solid, infectious, refreshing, a touch too juvenile on “Meglio insabbiare” (with bass that hints at funk), with running stop&go dynamics and ringing guitar work on “La legge del più debole”, acid-tinged detours on “Nella giungla” and more “pop” solutions on “Sangue d’Africa”.

They can't sit still for a second, and neither can we, obviously.

Twenty-three minutes of pure indulgence. Nothing more.
