Distinguere l’immediatezza dall’approssimazione è imperativo, in un’uscita, come questa dei Fergus & Geronimo, nella quale si mette in mostra uno degli ultimi prodotti di un garage californiano (anche se loro sono di Denton, Texas), che passa dai Velvet Underground ai Beach Boys nello spazio di un minuto (“Michael Kelly”). Più divertito e compiaciuto che non divertente, “Unlearn” si muove, sulla scorta del cantato strascicato, in territori che non sanno compiutamente nè di modernità (Woods, Best Coast), nè di passatismo (garage-pop). Abbozza hook da strada (“The World Never Stops”), con cambi di ritmo sì freschi, ma annacquati in una slavatezza complessiva che appende “Unlearn” al limbo del capriccio, luogo in cui la curiosità si esaurisce ben presto.
