Difficile districarsi tra le numerose uscite discografiche che vedono protagonista James Jackson Toth: dischi a nome Wooden Wand & The Vanishing Voice, Wooden Wand & The Sky High Band, progetti solistici e collaborazioni varie. “James & The Quiet” è firmato, invece, semplicemente Wooden Wand.

Il disco, prodotto da Lee Ranaldo che suona anche chitarra e piano in alcune parti, non brilla certamente per originalità, essendo legato all’universo folk degli anni 60, ma se amate lasciarvi cullare da melodie campestri (“In A Bucket”, “Spitting At The Cameras”) e folk-blues desertici e strascicati (“The Pushers”, “We Must Also Loves The Thieves”), allora questo disco fa per voi.

Dal canto loro, pezzi più criptici e intimisti, come ”Delia” e “Blood”, fondono il country di Johnny Cash con le atmosfere languide dei Radiohead; mentre “Future Dream”, che suona come un madrigale folk squarciato da una mesmerica chitarra elettrica, conquista la palma di brano più spiazzante. Disco tutto sommato piacevole, ma poco esaltante.
