Peter Broderick è un giovane e versatile polistrumentista danese, che vive a metà tra Stati Uniti ed Europa, tenendosi impegnato su entrambe le sponde dell’Atlantico in numerosissimi progetti e collaborazioni, tra i quali Horse Feathers, Norfolk & Western, M. Ward, Library Tapes e i suoi connazionali Efterklang, della cui formazione dal vivo fa da tempo parte integrante.

Nelle dieci tracce di “Docile”, sua prima produzione ufficiale, Broderick si cimenta con il solo pianoforte, per la serie di mini album dedicati a questo strumento dall’etichetta svedese Kning Disk.

Si tratta di composizioni brevi e minimali, scritte e registrate seguendo l’istinto e l’amore per uno strumento che con modestia egli stesso considera capace di per sé di dar luogo a risultati musicali sorprendenti, anche se affidato a non specialisti, come nel suo caso. Sarebbero sufficienti le note di copertina a descrivere questo lavoro, intriso della consapevolezza del suo autore di non apportare nulla di nuovo a tutta la musica per piano in circolazione, eppure animate dalla cura e dalla passione di un artista alle prese con il suo strumento preferito, come si percepisce dalla compiutezza dei brani e dalle poche note distillate con lenta emozione dal pianoforte.

A breve la Type Records pubblicherà il suo album di debutto; ma dai poco più di venti minuti di “Docile” si può già evincere con certezza che gli appassionati di Sylvain Chauveau e in genere della “modern classical” incentrata sul pianoforte dovranno d’ora in poi tener d’occhio con attenzione il nome di Peter Broderick.
