Xiu Xiu have announced a new album inspired by “Eraserhead”, the feature-film debut of David Lynch. The record, titled “Eraserhead Xiu Xiu”, will be released on July 10th via Polyvinyl Record Co., and grew out of the live show of the same name that the American band has been performing for some time, dedicated precisely to the director's visionary cult classic.
The project continues the relationship between Jamie Stewart's group and the Lynchian universe, already explored with the album dedicated to “Twin Peaks” and with a series of live performances approved by Lynch himself. As a preview, the band released a reinterpretation of “In Heaven”, the track from “Eraserhead” originally composed by Peter Ivers with lyrics by the director, here reprised by Stewart alongside Angela Seo.
This autumn Xiu Xiu will head out on a tour built around the repertoire of “Eraserhead Xiu Xiu”. According to the press release, the concept of the work draws on both the original soundtrack and the distinctive sound design created by Lynch with Alan Splet. A film intended to accompany the album is also in the works.
In 2025 the band had also released a covers album featuring reinterpretations of artists such as Daniel Johnston, GloRilla and Robyn. Here is the tracklist for “Eraserhead Xiu Xiu”:
