Twenty years after the release of “Ovunque proteggi“, Vinicio Capossela will perform his sixth album in full for a single show, on Monday 13 July 2026, at the Amphitheatre of the Pompeii Excavations. The choice of venue is no accident: the record, threaded through with references to impermanence and the plea for protection, finds a fitting setting in the archaeological site, marked as it is by the layering of time and the memory of destruction.
The concert is part of the B.O.P – Beats of Pompeii series and will feature a full performance of the album. Capossela has made clear that the intent is not retrospective celebration, but rather tied to the ongoing relevance of the songs. The Amphitheatre is presented as a fitting space to bring back into circulation a body of work that, in its themes and imagery, speaks to ideas of ruin and permanence. For tickets, click here.
Released in 2006, “Ovunque proteggi” won the Targa Tenco for Best Album Overall. The record marked a significant turning point in the artist's trajectory, both in terms of songwriting and sonic architecture. Critics described it as a work shot through with biblical, mythological and anthropological references, able to move between different registers while retaining strong thematic cohesion.
Its genesis was itinerant: recordings made in unconventional settings, from churches to natural spaces, and a compositional process tied to travel and encounter. The songs weave together Scripture, classical tradition and popular culture, with writing that alternates symbolic density and concrete narrative.
Pompeii, a city suspended between destruction and preservation, provides a setting that amplifies these elements. The Roman amphitheatre, under the open sky, becomes a listening space where the album is performed in full, with no reductive adaptations.
Two decades on, “Ovunque proteggi” is being presented again in its original form, as a work still very much alive in the present, rather than as an object of memory.
