The Fall: posthumous album "Post Script" out now. Listen to the single "30 Degrees"

More than eight years after the death of Mark E. Smith, the Fall are preparing to release what's being billed as their final studio album. Titled "Post Script", the record will be out in mid-September via Cog Sinister Records, gathering the material the leader of Manchester's storied post-punk outfit was working on before his death in January 2018, caused by lung and kidney cancer.
The project has been previewed by the single "30 Degrees", a four-minute track built on a deep bass groove, saturated synths and psychedelic atmospheres, threaded through with Smith's trademark surreal, cutting lyricism. The song was written together with fellow band members Simon Archer and Ed Blaney during sessions held in Salford. You can listen to it below.

"Post Script" will feature nine songs and will stand as The Fall's first album of new material since 2017's "New Facts Emerge", the last one released while Smith was still alive. In the years since, only a handful of archival releases have surfaced, including a boxset of live recordings in 2018 and a live album in 2021, the same year that saw the publication of the book "Excavate! The Wonderful and Frightening World of The Fall".
In early June, former member and manager Ed Blaney had teased the album's imminent release in enthusiastic terms: "I've spent much of the afternoon listening to the final mixes of the last official Fall studio album. Without any doubt I can say it's an absolutely brilliant record. Every Fall fan's dream, and then some." Blaney also described the nine tracks on the record as "nine absolute bangers".

The story of The Fall began in the late 1970s, when Mark E. Smith decided to form the band after attending a Sex Pistols gig at Manchester's Lesser Free Trade Hall. The group, which took its name from Albert Camus's novel "The Fall", debuted in 1978 with the EP "Bingo-Master's Break Out!" and released their first album, "Live At The Witch Trials", the following year. Over the following decades, they would become one of the most influential and unpredictable forces in the British post-punk scene.
