The Doors: a live album, “Unbound And Dangerous”, taken from the 1970 tour, is coming

02-09-2026

"Unbound and Dangerous", a new double live album by the Doors curated by Robby Krieger and John Densmore alongside longtime engineer Bruce Botnick, will be released on October 23. The album, available on double LP, CD, Blu-ray and streaming, gathers 16 recordings from the 1970 Roadhouse Blues Tour, the tour that followed "Morrison Hotel". It draws from the same run of shows that yielded "Absolutely Live", the only Doors live album released while Jim Morrison was still alive, though with a partly different selection of tracks. The recordings come from shows in New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Detroit; the sole exception is "Soul Kitchen", recorded on July 21, 1969 at the Aquarius Theatre in Hollywood.

In the liner notes, Krieger, Densmore and Botnick reflect on the dangerous reputation attached to the band, and above all to its singer. "I knew Jim was dangerous from the start. Talented and dangerous," Densmore recalls. "He seemed to want to defy everything. And then there were his words. They seduced me: they spoke of freedom, freedom of speech, freedom to be free. He wanted to set us all free. What a gift. This live album captures that wild spirit."
Krieger, however, downplays that image: "It was the Sixties, man, everything was allowed, and we didn't really think Jim was dangerous. Once the Kennedys were gone and Vietnam came along, that was the real danger, not the Doors." According to the guitarist, the moments when the band truly came close to danger were the Miami and Cleveland shows, when the crowd lost control.
For Botnick, though, danger and emotion were inseparable in the Doors experience: audiences packed the shows expecting the unpredictable, and Morrison knew how to read the room, pushing things to the limit every time.
