Il 29 marzo l’etichetta Ace Records arricchisce la propria serie “Songwriters” con una compilation di brani scritti da Leonard Cohen – due dei quali non sono mai stati interpretati dall’autore stesso – e cantati da altri artisti.
“Hallelujah: The Songs of Leonard Cohen” comprende diciotto selezioni incise nell’arco di quarant’anni: si va da “Hey, That’s No Way to Say Goodbye” nella versione di Judy Collins del 1967 fino a “Famous Blue Raincoat” nella cover di Marissa Nadler datata 2007. Presenti anche la celebre rilettura di “Hallelujah” di Jeff Buckley dall’album “Grace“, “Bird on a Wire” nella versione che k.d. lang incise per “Hymns of the 49th Parallel” e “Avalanche” nella cover di Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds; non mancano all’appello neppure Marianne Faithfull, Rufus Wainwright (suo il rifacimento dal vivo di “Chelsea Hotel no. 2”), Joe Cocker, Nina Simone, Stina Nordenstam, Lee Hazlewood e Buffy Sainte-Marie.
Il libretto di ventiquattro pagine contiene una biografia di Leonard Cohen a cura di Ian Johnston e commenti track-by-track di Mick Patrick.
