It's 1979: Supertramp release “Breakfast In America” and it's a worldwide hit. An international tour in support of the album follows, and the audio from this "stop" at the Pavillon in Paris will be released the following year, on the memorable live album “Paris". This is the story told by Peter Clifton's documentary “Supertramp: Breakfast in America Live in Paris”, airing Thursday 25 June at 11:55pm on Rai 5. The footage, never released until 2025, captures all the chemistry of a band at the peak of its expressive maturity. The setlist features every track from the celebrated album.

After the triumph of “Breakfast In America” and the long tour in support of the album in 1979, Supertramp became one of the best-known bands in the world. Recorded on 1 and 2 December 1979, the Parisian show captures them at the height of their career. On stage, the classic line-up: Rick Davies (vocals, songwriter and keyboards) and Roger Hodgson (vocals, songwriter, guitar and keyboards) alongside John Helliwell (saxophone, horns, vocals and keyboards) and a rhythm section made up of bassist Dougie Thomson and drummer Bob Siebenberg.
Supertramp toured for nearly ten months across America, Canada and Europe in support of "Breakfast in America", the best-selling album of 1979 (with over 20 million copies sold), winner of two Grammy Awards and source of several hit singles, from "The Logical Song" to "Take The Long Way Home".
The triumphant Parisian night runs through some of their most memorable songs, such as "Even In The Quietest Moments", "School", "A Soapbox Opera", "Hide In Your Shell", "Fool's Overture", "Dreamer", "Rudy", "The Logical Song", "Breakfast In America", "Goodbye Stranger", "Take The Long Way Home", "Child Of Vision".

Meanwhile, Supertramp's classic full-length masterpieces are resurfacing. After the recent reissues of "Crime Of The Century" and "Crisis? What Crisis?", the legendary band continues its 50th-anniversary celebrations with a new chapter dedicated to some of the most iconic titles in its catalogue. "Even In The Quietest Moments…", “Breakfast In America” and "… Famous Last Words…" return on vinyl in a half speed master edition, with release set for 20 March 2026. As with the project's previous releases, the remastering was once again entrusted to Miles Showell at Abbey Road Studios.
Released in April 1977, "Even In The Quietest Moments…" is the band's fifth album and marked an immediate leap forward in terms of commercial success and international visibility. The record reached number 16 on the Billboard Album Chart, driven by the opening single "Give A Little Bit", which quickly entered the Billboard Hot 100 and today boasts over 800 million streams. Confirming its historical significance, the album was already ranked 63rd in the 1978 World Critic Lists, dedicated to the 200 greatest albums of all time as voted by leading rock critics and DJs.
Their sixth record, “Breakfast In America”, remains Supertramp's commercial peak and best-seller to this day. Released in March 1979, it has sold over 22 million copies worldwide, racked up around 2 billion streams, and spent 88 consecutive weeks on the Billboard 200. The singles "The Logical Song", "Goodbye Stranger" and "Take The Long Way Home" all entered the Billboard Hot 100, with "The Logical Song" now surpassing 900 million streams. The title track "Breakfast In America" also made a major international impact, reaching the top 10 in the UK.
The album has picked up numerous accolades over the years, including two Grammy Awards and an Ivor Novello Award for "The Logical Song". Over time it has featured in several landmark rankings: 207th in Guinness's "Top 1000 Albums of All Time", 69th in Classic Rock Magazine's "Greatest British Rock Album of All Time", 43rd in the 100 greatest albums of all time as voted by Australian listeners, and 294th in Colin Larkin's "All Time 1000 Albums".

2025 was marked by a heavy loss for Supertramp: the passing of Rick Davies, founding member and blues soul of the group. It was precisely the contrast between Davies's raspy baritone voice and Hodgson's ethereal falsetto that became the band's trademark, blending progressive rock with pop sensibility into a unique, instantly recognisable sound.
