Steven Wilson has released “Requiem For A Village”, the title track and new preview of the concept album of the same name due out on November 6. The British musician also shared the first “Village Hall Session”, a live performance recorded with Randy McStine on guitars and backing vocals and Russell Holzman on drums and percussion.
Listen to “Requiem For A Village” below.

“Requiem For A Village” is built around an imaginary village, a place that, in Wilson's words, “you won't find on any map, and which can only be found if you're not looking for it”. The author describes it as “a 55-minute film for the ears, divided into 12 scenes”, corresponding to the album's twelve tracks. At the heart of the project is also a desire to recover a more physical, spontaneous and imperfect dimension of music. “I wanted to go back to music where you can metaphorically hear the fingerprints. To emphasize human gestures and imperfections, the things that can't be created with software. For instance, using only analogue synthesizers, with all their unpredictability, or not having perfectly tuned instruments”, Wilson explained. An approach that also led him to try his hand at instruments he doesn't usually play: “That also led me to pick up the violin, the oboe, or try playing drums, playing things I don't actually know how to play, but still managing to get something out of it that inspired me in ways I didn't expect. Approaching music with a sense of innocence and seeing where it would take me. And it took me to the Village”.

The new album will be presented in Italy through two special events, reserved for those who pre-order the record by September 28th. On October 5th in Rome there will be a Dolby Atmos preview listening session introduced by Wilson himself, while on October 6th in Milan the preview listening session will be followed by a DJ set from the musician.
