Tonight marks the start of the Simple Minds' summer mini-tour in Italy, with the first of two dates in Rome. The Global Tour 2024, their biggest tour since 1985, will see them take the stage first on Thursday 27 and Friday 28 June at the Cavea of the Auditorium Parco della Musica, as part of the Roma Summer Fest. Afterwards, Jim Kerr and co. will play the Locus Festival in Bari on Sunday the 30th, then perform in Senigallia's Piazza Garibaldi on 1 July, followed by Piazza Sordello in Mantua on the 4th. The legendary wave pioneers thus return to our country after the difficulties at the Milan concert last April 20th, caused by the frontman's bout of flu, for which he had apologized, thanking the fans.
The Simple Minds' Global Tour 2024, which kicked off in Taupo (New Zealand) on January 27th, will wrap up on August 4th in Colmar, France. The setlist will feature tracks from the Scottish band's eighteenth studio album, "Direction Of The Heart", alongside plenty of classics from their career spanning more than forty years. Although the official setlist for the Italian leg of the tour hasn't been confirmed, it's almost certain to closely mirror the one performed so far on the Global Tour 2024. Here, then, is the likely setlist for the Italian shows:

This Fear of Gods
Let There Be Love
Once Upon a Time
All The Things She Said

Formed in the Seventies and inspired in name by a line – "so simple minded" – from David Bowie's famous 1972 single "The Jean Genie", Simple Minds have become one of the most successful bands to come out of the UK, selling over 60 million records worldwide, with number-one singles on both sides of the Atlantic and chart-topping albums around the globe, including five UK number-one albums: "Sparkle In The Rain" (1984), "Once Upon A Time" (1985) and "Street Fighting Years", as well as the live recording "Live In The City Of Light" (1987) and the compilation "Glittering Prize 81/92".
On OndaRock, however, we've mainly focused on what we consider Jim Kerr and co.'s most creative period, namely that of their first five albums, which culminated in the classic "New Gold Dream".
In their current line-up, Simple Minds are made up of Jim Kerr (vocals), Charlie Burchill (guitars, keyboards), Gordy Goudie (acoustic guitar), Ged Grimes (bass), Cherisse Osei (drums) and Sarah Brown (vocals).
The latest release from the legendary wave group is "New Gold Dream – Live From Paisley Abbey", a live album celebrating the 1982 masterpiece with a live performance at Paisley Abbey, in their native Glasgow, where they were invited by Sky Arts to record an episode of "Greatest Album Live". It's one of many celebrations the Scottish band has carried out in recent years, on a path inevitably more focused on the past than the present, though not without the odd pleasant surprise, such as the two albums of new material "Big Music" (2014) and "Direction Of The Heart" (2022).
