Simple Minds: new album “Sacrosant” on the way. Listen to the single “Beginner Boys”. Two Italian dates in 2027

Simple Minds will release their new album "Sacrosanct" on January 29, 2027 via Bmg. It will be the first album of new material from Jim Kerr and Charlie Burchill's band since "Direction Of The Heart", released in 2022, and it arrives at the end of a particularly intense period, marked by a documentary on their career, a book co-written by the two founders, and a Global Tour that in 2025 alone brought the band in front of more than a million and a half spectators.
Born partly out of the North American dates, "Sacrosanct" reclaims some of the Simple Minds' art-rock and new wave roots: audience response to early tracks like "Sons And Fascination" is said to have pushed Kerr and Burchill to return to that style. The new record, made up of 8 tracks, ideally completes the trilogy that began with "Walk Between Worlds" and continued with "Direction Of The Heart".

The first single is “Beginner Boys”, dedicated to Jim Kerr's twin grandsons and to the question of what it means today to raise a man: “How strength, tenderness, courage and kindness can coexist, even when the culture around them sends out conflicting signals. More than a statement, it's a question I hope they'll keep asking themselves for the rest of their lives.”

Among the other tracks, “Elysium” opens the album with echoes of Magazine and takes its title from the mythological place reserved for those who had lived well or fought with valour. “King Of The Underworld”, inspired by the figure of Mephistopheles, serves as its counterpart and reflects on what governs desires and appetites; “Jerusalem (State Of Mind)”, meanwhile, looks to William Blake's vision, not so much of a city as of the longing for a better world. “Our Secrets Are The Same” addresses the bond that has united Kerr and Burchill for a lifetime, while “Songs” celebrates the consoling power of music. The two closing tracks, “Alive In This Moment” and “The Next Right Thing”, tackle the theme of nostalgia from different angles: the former urges us to stay in the present, the latter looks wistfully at time passing and people lost.
Kerr explains: “We called the album 'Sacrosanct' because, after a lifetime spent doing this - almost fifty years writing songs together - it has stopped feeling like a career and become something closer to a faith. Calling the record 'Sacrosanct' isn't an exaggeration. It's simply the truth.”

The album will be released to coincide with the V Tour 2027, which will kick off in Australia and New Zealand before heading to Europe. In Italy, Simple Minds will celebrate fifty years of activity with two shows, joined by Level 42:

16 April – Unipol Forum, Milan

In the UK, meanwhile, the special guest for the May dates will be Gary Numan.
