The cover night at Sanremo 2026 is taking shape, and it's doing so through a series of unexpected pairings. Among the duets announced by Carlo Conti during the Tg1's 1:30pm bulletin, three meetings stand out as bound to spark debate: Samurai Jay with Belen Rodriguez, Fulminacci with Francesca Fagnani, and Chiello with Morgan. They will all take to the Ariston stage on Friday 27 February, during the traditional night devoted to cover versions.
Samurai Jay has gone for a disorienting combination, teaming up with Belen Rodriguez and Roy Paci for "Baila morena": an unabashedly pop move, built on media impact and a festive reinterpretation of the track. Fulminacci, on the other hand, is banking on irony and metatextual play, bringing in Francesca Fagnani for "Parole parole", a classic of Italian song that here takes on an almost performative dimension. Even more freighted with expectation is Chiello's duet with Morgan on "Mi sono innamorato di te", a pairing that sets two restless sensibilities and two different generations against each other, united by a shared expressive tension.

The duets were announced live during the Rai news broadcast, with Conti stressing the varied nature of the evening: a mix of surprising choices, off-kilter collaborations and songs reinterpreted in unexpected ways. The artistic director described a night capable of "making people dance, reflect and feel moved", thanks to artistic pairings born precisely from the Big Artists' wish to step outside their usual boundaries.
The Festival will run from 24 to 28 February and will be hosted by Conti himself alongside Laura Pausini, present for every night. Achille Lauro will join them as co-host on the second night. Thirty Big Artists and four newcomers will be competing: an edition that, at least on paper, seems to be betting firmly on variety and on short-circuiting different worlds.
