Saint Etienne: listen to the new single "Half Light", from the forthcoming album "The Night"

I Saint Etienne hanno annunciato l’uscita del loro nuovo album, “The Night”. Il disco uscirà il 12 dicembre, su Heavenly Recordings, a distanza di poco più di tre anni dal loro decimo LP, “I’ve Been Trying To Tell You”.

Sarah Cracknell, Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs made the album with composer and producer Augustin Bousfield in the first half of 2024.

“It was great to all be back together in the same studio, Gus's in Bradford, we realized it had been several years since we'd last done it, sprawled on the carpet, coffee cups in hand, surrounded by sheets of lyrics and half-formed ideas for titles,” recalls Pete Wiggs. “We wanted to carry on with the thick, spacey atmosphere of the last album, maybe even double down on it, but it's a very different album, not built on samples; songs, moods and spoken-word pieces drift in and out while it pours down outside. It's the kind of record I like to listen to in the dark, or with my eyes closed”.

Ahead of the release of the new Saint Etienne album comes the single “Half Light”, whose video you can watch below.

“‘Half Light’ – spiega Wiggs – parla del limite della notte, degli ultimi raggi del sole che tremolano attraverso i rami degli alberi, della comunione con la natura e della visione di cose che potrebbero non esserci”.

I Saint Etienne sono una band britannica di musica indie pop e dance, formatasi a Londra nel 1990. Composto dai membri Bob Stanley, Pete Wiggs e Sarah Cracknell, il gruppo è noto per il suo stile eclettico, che mescola elementi di pop, elettronica, house e sonorità rétro, ispirandosi spesso alla cultura pop britannica e alla nostalgia.

Il loro album di debutto, “Foxbase Alpha” (1991) è diventato in breve tempo una pietra miliare della scena dance degli the '90s, con successi come “Only Love Can Break Your Heart”, una reinterpretazione del brano di Neil Young. In successivi lavori come “So Tough” (1993) e “Tiger Bay” (1994), il gruppo ha consolidato la propria identità grazie a un sound innovativo che combina dancefloor e atmosfere sofisticate. Nel corso degli anni, i Saint Etienne hanno mantenuto un culto di fan appassionati, pubblicando dischi come “Good Humor” (1998), ispirato al pop svedese, e “Words And Music by Saint Etienne” (2012), che celebra l’amore per la musica pop. Il loro approccio sperimentale e il fascino per la narrazione musicale li hanno resi una delle band più raffinate e amate della scena alternativa britannica.
