Rod Stewart given oxygen on stage, but still manages to finish the concert – Video

Rod Stewart had a difficult moment during Friday night's concert at the Utah First Credit Union Amphitheatre in West Valley City, in the United States. The 81-year-old Scottish singer appeared visibly out of breath while performing “Young Turks”, to the point of requiring assistance from staff backstage. According to videos circulating online, Stewart repeatedly leaned on instruments and stage structures to keep his balance. Some footage also shows the artist receiving oxygen through a mask before resuming the show. Visibly shaken, he then addressed the crowd: “The show must go on, I nearly passed out. Do you mind if I sit down for this song?”, he asked the fans, who backed him with a long round of applause.

After recovering, Sir Rod reassured the audience and decided to see the night through, though he remained seated for much of the performance. The setlist included several of his classics, among them "Have I Told You Lately", "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?" and, as the only encore, "Love Train".
Despite the scare, Stewart managed to finish the concert, once again showing the determination that continues to define his live shows more than sixty years into his career. Altitude may have played a role in the episode. West Valley City sits at roughly 1,300-1,400 metres above sea level, a condition that can make physical performance more demanding, especially for an artist in the middle of a long tour.

The episode comes after a string of recent health issues that had already forced Stewart to adjust his plans. On June 12 the singer cancelled a concert in San Diego due to what was described as sinusitis. He later revealed he was dealing with a respiratory infection accompanied by laryngitis. Fans had also been talking about photos showing him the following day in Boston, where he had attended a World Cup match between Scotland and Haiti.
