Roberto Vecchioni forced to stop for serious health reasons: "My body is asking for a break"

Roberto Vecchioni has once again been forced to stop for health reasons. The singer-songwriter cancelled the concert scheduled for Friday, September 25 at the Teatro Verdi in Salerno, where he was due to perform as part of the Premio Charlot and receive the "Grandi Protagonisti dello Spettacolo" award. The cancellation was announced by the organizers, who explained that the concert could not take place due to "sudden and serious health issues" affecting the artist. Enrico Brignano and the Montecarlo Big Band have been called in to take his place.

Vecchioni then posted a message to his fans on social media, trying to reassure them: "Unfortunately, at my age it happens that the body demands a break, which I hope will be as short as possible."
The 83-year-old singer-songwriter expressed above all his regret at not being able to attend the Salerno event: "I am truly sorry not to be able to be in Salerno for the Premio Charlot. As everyone knows, I love your city and its theatre. I do hope to come back soon on another occasion to meet your wonderful audience. A hug, and enjoy the award ceremony."

This latest setback comes after the health problems Vecchioni faced in recent months. In July, he had revealed that he suffered a health scare while watching an Inter match and spent a long period in hospital, which had also forced him to temporarily halt his artistic activity and the making of his new album. "I spent a lot of time in hospital, those months on hold are devastating; it takes a hell of a long time to recover. I had started the album and left it half-finished. Up to age 82 things had gone fine, just a couple of small tumors. I have a strong character, but now it's harder," he had said in an interview with "Repubblica".

His condition had subsequently improved and Vecchioni was preparing to return regularly to the stage. This latest cancellation, however, raises some questions about his upcoming dates. The schedule includes a concert on 28 September at the Teatro Dal Verme in Milan and another on 30 September at the Teatro Brancaccio in Rome. No cancellations or changes have been announced for these two dates so far. Meanwhile, the Premio Charlot organizers have extended to Vecchioni "their warmest and most heartfelt wishes for a swift and full recovery."
