Mansun broke up in May 2003, and since then their leader Paul Draper had all but abandoned music. In all these years, in fact, there had only been a couple of collaborations, first with Skin of Skunk Anansie and then with Joy Formidable. 2014, on the other hand, is seeing intense musical activity from Draper. First of all, there was his joining The Anchoress project, led by Welsh singer and multi-instrumentalist Catherine A. Davies: the band has released a single, titled "What Goes Around", and has a debut album ready, on which Draper played, and worked on production and songwriting. This is the first record he has taken part in as a whole since his band split up.
Then, this past August 23rd, Draper made public his first official solo song. The track was unveiled at the Mansun Convention, an event held in Chester, the band's hometown, attended by around 500 fans from various parts of the world. The day featured a memorabilia exhibition, a charity auction, performances by a few tribute bands, and a series of panel discussions about the band's history and what remains of them today. During one of these panels the song was played, titled "Feeling My Heart Run Slow". A fan filmed the moment, and Draper's entourage authorized the sharing of the video.
Not long ago, Draper had stated that, immediately after the end of Mansun, he had set to work on a solo album, provisionally titled "Spooky Action", but that he had then stopped everything because he felt too emotionally low to think about making and releasing music. Presumably, after all this time, he has found some peace of mind, and the moment may have come to finish the work and release it.
