New Order: a reunion for the Hall of Fame? Peter Hook: "Only if they apologize to me"

23-04-2026

The prospect of a reunion between Peter Hook and his former New Order bandmates remains, for now, fairly remote. Following the announcement that the band — alongside Joy Division — will be inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame's 2026 class, Hook clarified his stance in an interview with Rolling Stone.

Asked whether he would take the stage with Bernard Sumner and the other members, Hook answered without hesitation: “No. No. Not after what they did to me and my family, no… I won't be sharing a stage with them.”

The matter of a possible live performance is, at least in theory, a different one. Hook explained: “Well, it's slightly different, isn't it? I haven't spoken to Bernard since… actually, I've never spoken to him. He's the one who talked to me. That must be 15 years. Steve [Morris] and I spoke four or five years ago, but it wasn't a friendly moment. And I haven't spoken to Gillian [Gilbert] in 15 years. So it doesn't seem very likely, mate…” He added: “If Bernard got in touch and said, 'Hey Hooky, sorry about that eight-year legal battle that cost you six years' worth of wages. I'm really sorry. Maybe we should have just talked about it.' Then who knows… Life is full of surprises. It could even be a nice one.”

With a joke, Hook then brought up the Gallagher brothers, Liam and Noel, also among this year's inductees and protagonists of an unexpected reunion: “Maybe Liam and Noel could be the go-betweens you're looking for. They could say: 'OK, you two. Shake hands and get up on stage to play 'Transmission', 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' and 'Blue Monday'.'”

The induction ceremony is set for November 14 in Los Angeles and will also see the induction of Phil Collins, Billy Idol, Iron Maiden, Oasis, Sade, Luther Vandross and Wu-Tang Clan.
