19-03-2026

The Italian recorded music market closed 2025 with growth of +10.7%, reaching 513.4 million euros and overtaking the national box office for the first time. This is according to the 2026 report published by Fimi (Federazione Industria Musicale Italiana). It marks the eighth consecutive year of expansion, with the market's value more than doubling since 2019.

Streaming remains the main driver, worth over 340 million euros (around two-thirds of the total). Premium subscriptions in particular grew by +14.1%, generating 234.4 million euros on their own. At the same time, physical music continues to expand, reaching 74.7 million euros (+21.9%) and now accounting for 15% of the market: vinyl remains the dominant format, up 24.2%, but CDs are also growing significantly (+15.1%), a sign of a market increasingly driven by superfan demand and the collectible dimension of music. Overall, 4.6 million physical products were sold, 51% on CD and 47% on vinyl. More specifically, albums released between 2020 and 2025 accounted for 71% of units sold.

Consumption is heavily concentrated on recent releases: 82% of streams involve tracks released since 2010, with over half from the last five years alone, while in physical formats 92% of sales are albums released in the same period.

Among other revenue streams, related rights rose to 82.1 million euros (+9.8%), while sync income fell to 12.2 million euros (-5.7%) due to a contraction in audiovisual production. Foreign royalties, on the other hand, grew (+13.9%), topping 32 million euros, driven mainly by digital.

Globally, the recorded music industry reached $31.7 billion (+6.4%), with subscription streaming at the heart of revenues and vinyl continuing to expand. Against this backdrop, the Italian market confirms solid growth, underpinned by digital and a renewed interest in physical formats.
