The man who defied every label and embodied the very meaning of the word "cool": drawing on the words of Miles Davis's autobiography, Stanley Nelson's film "Miles Davis, the birth of the cool", airing Wednesday September 16 at 11:05 pm on Rai 5, tells the story of the legendary jazz composer.

Davis worked like a scientist with his collaborators to push musical experimentation and expand the tones and lyricism of jazz, and the effects are still felt today. Digging into his past loves, personal relationships and addictions, a clearer portrait of Davis emerges: fearless and compelling, with an intellectual fervor tempered only by his insecurities. The film's cast also includes Quincy Jones, Carlos Santana, Herbie Hancock and Wayne Shorter.
