Mahmood announces: “I'm leaving Italy and moving to Spain. Too much pressure here”

Mahmood has decided to take a break. In an interview given to the international magazine “Butt”, the singer announced his intention to leave Italy and move to Spain, putting his musical activity on hold entirely for all of 2026. The choice stems from a need to step back from media pressure and regain a more normal everyday life.

Mahmood has said that fame has made even the most ordinary gestures increasingly complicated. Walking down the street, eating out or going out at night often means feeling watched or filmed. This condition has caused him considerable distress recently, to the point of describing himself as “a white tiger at the zoo,” constantly under the public eye. Moving to Spain therefore represents an attempt to regain greater freedom and a certain degree of anonymity.

Alongside the decision to change country comes a clean break from his career: in 2026 Mahmood will not release new music or play any concerts. The singer explained that he wants to use this period to stop, reflect and figure out which artistic direction to take in the future. The intention is to reclaim time and space for himself and return to songwriting with a different outlook.
