Justin K. Broadrick has announced that Godflesh will no longer play live shows. The decision is related to health issues: the British musician had to undergo abdominal surgery to repair an inguinal hernia, described by Broadrick himself as an urgent operation.
According to the band leader's explanation, continuing to perform with the intensity required by Godflesh's material would risk further hernias and a possible failure of the abdominal wall. For this reason, the band's live shows are considered over as of the day of the operation.

Broadrick will nonetheless continue working on other, less physically demanding projects, such as Jesu and JK Flesh. Meanwhile, he is putting the finishing touches on "Decay", billed as Godflesh's penultimate album, due on Relapse Records between July and August. The musician has also already written what should be the band's final studio record, expected by the end of 2026. Further releases are planned after that, including dub albums, live recordings and other archival material, but with no new tours or further Godflesh studio work.
Broadrick has also hinted at an upcoming new solo project, geared toward a strand of heavy music combining guitars, electronics and vocals, without resorting to screamed vocals. "In the near future a new solo project will emerge, further exploring the parameters of 'heavy/ugly' music, with my guitars and electronics and, of course, vocals, but not screamed vocals!", the British artist explained.
Godflesh's latest album, "Purge", came out in 2023.
