Joy Division-New Order, Oasis, Iron Maiden, Sade and Phil Collins inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame

14-04-2026

In 2026 the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame records an unprecedented British presence: six of the eight new inductees come from the United Kingdom, the highest figure ever reached in a single class.

Among the new inductees are Oasis, Iron Maiden, Sade, Phil Collins, Billy Idol and the joint project Joy Division/New Order. Rounding out the list are American acts Wu-Tang Clan and Luther Vandross.

The result surpasses the previous record of five British artists set in 2019, while in 2021 no acts from the UK made the cut. Among the most anticipated names are Oasis — the Manchester band fronted by Noel Gallagher and Liam Gallagher — and the double induction of Joy Division and New Order, two pivotal touchstones of the English post-punk scene.

For Iron Maiden, induction comes after years of nominations and more than two decades since first becoming eligible, despite the band's repeatedly voiced reservations about the institution. Sade, meanwhile, achieves a symbolic milestone: she becomes the first Black British woman to enter the Hall of Fame. Phil Collins, already inducted in 2010 with Genesis, is now also recognised for his solo career.

The nominations were announced during the television show American Idol, hosted by Ryan Seacrest, with an appearance by Lionel Richie, who was himself inducted into the Hall in 2022. Liam Gallagher, long a vocal critic of the honour, was quick to react, though his public comments this time were notably more conciliatory.

The official induction ceremony is set for November 14 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles. As per the rules, eligibility kicks in 25 years after the release of an artist's first commercial record.
