11-02-2026

Marking sixty years since the birth of Jeff Buckley, the documentary “It’s Never Over: Jeff Buckley”, directed by Amy Berg and co-produced by Brad Pitt, arrives in Italian cinemas as a special event on March 16, 17 and 18 only. Presented at the Sundance Film Festival and the Rome Film Fest, the film traces the personal and artistic story of the singer-songwriter who died in 1997. Advance tickets go on sale February 4, while the list of cinemas will be available at nexostudios.it.

At the same time, Sony Music Entertainment will release the deluxe edition of “Live At Siné” on February 13, the historic 1993 EP recorded at a small Manhattan club. The expanded edition comes as a box set with four vinyl records, individual sleeves, a booklet with liner notes and colour photographs, plus live versions of tracks such as “Grace”, “Last Goodbye” and “Hallelujah” by Leonard Cohen.

The official trailer is available below.

The son of Tim Buckley, a legend of American songwriting, Jeff Buckley left a decisive mark with just one studio album, "Grace" (1994), which over time has become a touchstone for singer-songwriter music of the Nineties. His death at thirty, in the waters of a Mississippi tributary, helped cement his image somewhere between absolute talent and tragic fate.

"It's Never Over: Jeff Buckley" builds its story through previously unseen archival material drawn from the artist's personal estate, alongside a series of first-hand accounts: his mother Mary Guibert, former partners Rebecca Moore and Joan Wasser, musicians Michael Tighe and Parker Kindred, as well as artists such as Ben Harper and Aimee Mann. What emerges is a portrait that weaves together musical upbringing, ambition, fragility, and the cultural backdrop of early-1990s New York.

Director Amy Berg has explained that she nursed the idea of a film about Buckley for years. Her first conversation with the singer's mother dates back eighteen years, at a time when a biopic was being considered. Access to his personal archives — including the last voicemail Buckley ever left — steered the project toward documentary form, which was finally greenlit in 2019. The result is a work aimed at the rigorous reconstruction of a figure who remains central to the contemporary musical imagination.
