Two years after “No Name“, Jack White is back with a new album. The Detroit musician will release his seventh studio effort on July 10th, titled “Frozen Charlotte”, a thirteen-track record that stands as a kind of ideal continuation of the previous chapter.
Ahead of its release comes the new single “Dollar Bill” (listen below), following the two tracks released in April, “G.O.D. And The Broken Ribs” and “Derecho Demonico”, both included in the album's tracklist. The announcement arrived in a rather unusual way: hidden inside a Third Man Records promotional video, before officially appearing on the website of the label founded by White himself.
“Frozen Charlotte” was recorded at Third Man Studio in Nashville together with the band that has been backing the former White Stripes frontman live: Patrick Keeler on drums, Dominic Davis on bass and Bobby Emmett on keyboards. According to Third Man Records, the group went straight back into the studio after finishing “No Name”, kicking off new sessions that eventually turned into the forthcoming album.
The label describes the project as close in spirit and energy to “No Name”: a record meant to satisfy longtime fans while still welcoming new listeners into White's musical world. The title also carries a particular meaning. “Frozen Charlotte” borrows its name from a series of sculptures made by the musician and featured in the exhibition “Jack White: These Thoughts May Disappear”, which opened on May 29th at the Newport Street Gallery in London and runs through September 13th. The album cover depicts one of the works on display: a small 1940s sailor figurine topped with a blue skull-shaped shaker. The reference is to the so-called Frozen Charlottes, nineteenth-century porcelain dolls whose name came from a famous cautionary tale meant to warn children about the harshness of winter.
Before the album's release, Jack White will make a stop in Italy for his first solo date in the country: the show is set for June 19th at the La Prima Estate festival, in Versilia. It will be followed by a date on June 21st in Lignano Sabbiadoro.
