Gianna Nannini with Marracash: here's the new version of "America"

01-07-2026

Gianna Nannini returns with a new version of "America," one of the signature songs of her career. The single, made together with Marracash, will be available from Friday, July 3rd on radio and all digital platforms via Emi/Universal Music Italy.
Produced by Nannini herself alongside Dardust, the new "America" reworks the 1979 classic through a dialogue between rock and rap. Joining the singer is Marracash, featured in a collaboration that updates the meaning of a song written over forty years ago but still capable of speaking to the present.

The cover artwork has also been reimagined. The original image, which depicted the Statue of Liberty holding a vibrator in place of the torch, gives way to a new version in which the statue appears melted, a metaphor for an American dream that has now dissolved.
"I gave America a refresh," says Gianna Nannini, "I re-recorded the vocals and brought Marra on board, the dream has melted along with the stars-and-stripes vibrator — now it's America inc."

For Marracash, the collaboration held special meaning: "Meeting Gianna felt like the stuff of legend, and so did being contacted by her to work on this track. 'America' is an iconic song, and in this refreshed version it becomes current again, representing a dream that has melted before our eyes. Gianna is an icon of rock and of feminism, and what truly unites us is authenticity: we're both big shouters, but above all we're both people who don't mince words. Rock and rap have something in common too: they don't try to please you or sugarcoat things, they tell it like it is."

The single's release kicks off "Giannagold", the project with which the Siena-born artist will celebrate 50 years since her debut album through two years of releases and concerts. On 10 July, a new limited edition of "California" will also arrive - the landmark 1979 album that marked the singer-songwriter's turn toward rock and which, thanks precisely to "America", opened the doors to success for her in Germany and Northern Europe as well.
The celebrations will culminate on 19 September with the live debut of "Giannagold – The 50 Years Album Celebration" at Berlin's Waldbühne, the historic arena that has hosted concerts by artists such as Rolling Stones, Rammsteinhttps://www.ondarock.it/monografie/depechemode/ and Depeche Mode.
