Gabriella Ferri: the Rai tribute in the "Italiani" series marking the anniversary of her death

02-04-2026

A special by Pierluigi Castellano dedicated to Gabriella Ferri, marking the anniversary of her death, airs as part of the "Italiani" series on Friday, April 3rd at 12pm on Rai Storia.

Born in Rome in 1942 in the famous working-class district of Testaccio, Gabriella Ferri was one of Italy's most celebrated and beloved voices from the 1960s onward, as well as the ultimate icon of Roman femininity, alongside her idol Anna Magnani.

She started out specializing in Roman folk music, before becoming an all-round singer and performer, while also working as a variety show actress: among her performances worth remembering are those at the Roman venue “Il Bagaglino”, and later also on well-known Rai TV programs such as “Dove sta Zazà” and “Mazzabubù”, with scripts and stage direction by Mario Castellacci, Pier Francesco Pingitore and Antonello Falqui, and TV direction by Antonello Falqui.

In the 1970s she gradually achieved overwhelming commercial success in Italy, and also in South America. In 1969 one of her songs, translated into Spanish as "Te regalo yo mis ojos", became a huge hit in Latin America, prompting her to embark on a series of concerts across those countries. The traditional repertoire of those places would go on to feature on the first side of "Remedios", one of her masterpieces.

Gabriella Ferri passed away on April 3rd, 2004, at the age of 61.
