Flea officially goes solo. The Red Hot Chili Peppers bassist has announced the release of "Honora", his first album under his own name, out March 27th, accompanied by a tour that will also stop in Europe.
There's no split with his main band: this is a side project, developed without any friction or farewells. At 63, Michael Peter Balzary is simply choosing to explore some personal territory, away from the group dynamics that made him one of the most recognizable musicians in American rock.
"Honora" comes across as a collaborative effort, bolstered by some notable guest appearances. Among those featured are Thom Yorke and Nick Cave, alongside a sizeable roster of musicians with whom Flea shared writing and performing duties on the tracks: Mauro Refosco, Nate Walcott, Josh Johnston, Jeff Parmer, Anna Butterss and Deantoni Parks. The record features ten tracks: six original compositions and four covers of songs written by, among others, George Clinton and Eddie Hazel, Jimmy Webb, Frank Ocean and Ann Ronell.
The album was preceded by the single "A plea", released last month, which highlights a lesser-known side of the musician: his trumpet playing, also featured throughout the rest of the record. The second single is "Traffic Lights", recorded with Thom Yorke. Speaking about the track, Flea explained that the first jam with Deantoni Parks reminded him of certain Atoms For Peace vibes, which is why he decided to bring Yorke on board.

Following the release of "Honora", Flea will take the project on the road with a tour across the United States, Canada and Europe. The European dates kick off on May 21st in Berlin, followed by Amsterdam on May 22nd, London on May 26th and Paris on May 28th.
