Filippo Gatti (Elettrojoyce): listen to the new single “1968” from the album “Viaggio sentimentale”, out in December

25-11-2025

"Viaggio sentimentale", the new album by Filippo Gatti, former bassist and singer of Elettrojoyce, will be released on December 8th. The first vinyl copies will already be available on December 3rd, when Gatti will play the new (and old) songs live in a one-off event at the Teatro La Basilica di Piazza San Giovanni in Rome. The 9pm show has long since sold out, so a 7pm performance has been added, for which tickets are still available.

Here's the first track to be unveiled from the new album, with a numeric, emblematic title: "1968".

The story of this album is the story of a personal and artistic journey that began many years ago. After the Elettrojoyce trilogy, Filippo Gatti released an experimental, strongly anticonformist album ("Tutto sta per cambiare", Sony 2003) featuring guests such as Bruno Lauzi, Vittorio Nocenzi of Banco del Mutuo Soccorso and Riccardo Sinigallia. Gatti had in fact previously contributed as a songwriter and musician to the solo debut of his friend, the singer-songwriter and producer. The collaboration between the two continued during the recording sessions for "Incontri a metà strada", Sinigallia's second album. It was during those days that the idea was born to record, in the same studio, an album of Filippo's own titled "Viaggio sentimentale". The first sessions produced an important work rich in arrangements, which caught the interest of a major label - one that would later back out, leaving the still-unfinished songs in limbo.

Gatti later made an album out of the poetic material of poet Elisa Biagini ("Fiato con Elisa Biagini", PhP, 2009), turning some of the poems into songs and others into compositions featuring the author's own voice. After producing Bobo Rondelli's album "Per amor del cielo" and taking part in the tour for that record, he finally released a second solo album of original songs titled "The Pilot and the Waitress" (Sunnybit, 2012), before returning to collaborate with Sinigallia on the album "Per tutti", this time not only as a songwriter but also as artistic co-producer.

In 2014, the Sanremo Festival, hosted by Fabio Fazio, decided to include Riccardo Sinigallia among the "big" names in the lineup, selecting two songs for the public to choose between via televote for the competition: "Prima di andare via", co-written with Gatti, and Gatti's own "Una rigenerazione" - both co-produced and presented by Sinigallia as an independent artist (it was only after his inclusion in the Sanremo lineup that Riccardo was approached by Caterina Caselli's Sugar label). On the Teatro Ariston stage, alongside Laura Arzilli, Filippo Gatti would also be present.

While the disqualification of the song "Prima di andare via" from the Festival is fairly well-known history, not everyone knows that "Una rigenerazione" was one of the songs contained in the "Viaggio sentimentale" project, and would later be included on Sinigallia's album "Per tutti" alongside another Gatti song from that same project, "Le ragioni personali" (albeit with a modification by Sinigallia compared to the original). The album's title is itself drawn from a line in that song.

Gatti subsequently released "La testa e il cuore" (Lapidarie incisioni, 2017), while Sinigallia released the album "Ciao Cuore" in 2018, also for Sugar (curiously, both titles contain the word "cuore", heart).

A long period of recording silence followed these two releases.

Filippo, who had moved to live in the Maremma in 2008, produced various singer-songwriters (Rondelli, Carocci, Talarico) at his recording studio called Ortostudio, while Sinigallia produced successful albums.

In 2023, Gatti asked Sinigallia to collaborate on a new project of his. The two held a session at the studio of Griffin Rodriguez (engineer for Chicago Art Ensemble and Califone), from which came the two new songs for a two-track mini-album titled "Notturno/estate" (Folkificio, 2025). During the session, Sinigallia asked Filippo to play the songs that had been left in a drawer, and seven tracks (all except "Una rigenerazione") were recorded, in a single take, one after another (on April 22, 2023), before being embellished by Sinigallia's artistically visionary touch on piano and synthesizers, or sometimes simply with an equalizer.

The result is the current, definitive "Viaggio sentimentale", an album that the label Folkificio will release on December 8, 2025. Pure craftsmanship in pop songwriting, made up of songs too beautiful to stay locked away in a drawer.
