Eels are back with a new album. The band fronted by Mark Oliver Everett, aka E, will release their sixteenth studio effort, “Cookie Happened”, on October 16 via E Works/Play It Again Sam. The announcement comes with the first single, “Cap In Hand” (listen below), a bittersweet track that hints at some of the album's moods, telling the story of a man trying to come to terms with his own mistakes and put his life back in order. Caught between melancholy and human warmth, the song is a preview of an album centered on life's small daily victories, its inevitable defeats, and the very value of lived experience. Explaining the meaning of the title, Everett reflects on the fleeting nature of existence: “All of this will be forgotten. Every joy, achievement and hardship will one day become so irrelevant it'll be as if it never happened. But, as the great philosopher of our times, Cookie Monster, once said: 'Me not sad that cookie is gone, me happy that cookie was.' All of this will be forgotten. But isn't it still a wonderful thing that it happened at all?”

"Cap In Hand" also revolves around one of the album's recurring characters, a figure marked by mistakes but determined to seek some form of redemption. "For this song I also wanted to sound a bit worn out and weary, like someone who's wrecked their own life but now owns up to their mistakes and tries to make amends, humbly and with their head bowed. You know how record labels are: 'We don't care what you hand in, as long as you sound defeated on the first two tracks!'" he commented with his trademark sarcasm.
