Deep Purple return with a new studio album: “Splat!”, out July 3rd via earMUSIC. The record marks a new chapter for the storied British band, who continue to look back at their own past without giving up on a contemporary approach. “Today's Deep Purple sound a lot like a current version of the Deep Purple of the Seventies. And we're in great shape,” explained singer Ian Gillan, stressing how strongly the band still feels the connection to the classic period of their career.
For this record too, the band chose to work again with producer Bob Ezrin, who has previously worked alongside artists such as Kiss, Pink Floyd, Lou Reed and Alice Cooper. According to Gillan, “Splat!” recaptures the spirit of the band's great classics: “The new music is in line with songs like 'Highway Star', 'Smoke On The Water' and 'Lazy': it keeps the same dynamics, the same balance and the same fun that characterized what we were writing between 1969 and 1973”.
The album's concept revolves around an idea developed by Gillan himself: rather than portraying the end as destruction, “Splat!” envisions a transformation. The record tackles the theme of humanity's end not in an apocalyptic key, but as a passage towards a new form of existence beyond the physical dimension.
Deep Purple will also return to perform live in Italy: on July 16th, 2026 in Pisa's Piazza dei Cavalieri, as part of Pisa Summer Knights, and on July 17th, 2026 at the Castello Carrarese in Este (PD). They will then return in autumn, on October 17th, 2026, in Milan, at the Unipol Forum (Assago).
Led by the unmistakable voice of Ian Gillan, Deep Purple are ready to set audiences alight and reaffirm that hard rock still bears their stamp. True pioneers of heavy metal and among the most influential bands of all time, Deep Purple have been active for over fifty years: their debut dates back to 1968 with “Shades Of Deep Purple”, driven by the success of the single “Hush”.
After guitarist Steve Morse's departure in 2022, the lineup welcomed virtuoso Simon McBride, bringing fresh creative energy alongside legends Ian Gillan, Roger Glover, Ian Paice and Don Airey.
