From Saturday 8 to Monday 10 October, the second edition of LineUp! at the Mattatoio in Rome

06-10-2022

From Saturday 8 to Monday 10 October, Romaeuropa Festival presents the second edition of LineUp!, an important three-day event that will showcase, in the space of Rome's Mattatoio, some of the finest emerging female voices on the Italian electronic, jazz and r'n'b scene. Curated by Giulia Di Giovanni and Matteo Antonaci, LineUp! is a musical journey built on inclusivity and gender equality, a look at the new identities carried by pop and urban sounds.

It kicks off on Saturday 8 October at 9pm with Italian-Moroccan singer and performer LaHasna, born in 1993, and her personal mix of soul, hip hop and Arabic influences, an imaginative world made of irony, double meanings, romance and multiculturalism.

At 10pm the spotlight shifts to the contaminations of Nava, an Italian-Persian singer-songwriter who has lived in Milan for several years, where she made a name for herself with an original blend of sounds spanning pop and dance culture, moving between atmospheres that recall both Lana Del Rey and Apparat.

Sunday 9 October belongs to LNDFK, a producer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born of two different cultures (an Italian mother and an Arab father), born in Tunisia, raised in Naples and now based in Paris. Her debut album, "Kuni", brings together jazz, neo-soul and R'n'B sounds.

Next up is singer-songwriter and producer Joan Thiele (pictured above), half Italian and half Swiss-Colombian, raised between Cartagena and Italy. Hers is a sophisticated style with an international reach, weaving elegant r&b and pop inflections together with arrangements from another era, in a perfect balance between tradition and experimentation that has led her to collaborations with Mace and Venerus.

On 10 October LineUp! will host Pietro Turano's Eclissi Talk project, the stories from the podcast series of the same name launched in autumn 2021, six episodes devoted to tales of self-determination and redemption. Turano shines a light on LGBTQ+ themes and will lead a discussion featuring the podcast's protagonists in the audience, along with writer Michela Murgia and guests from the world of Italian entertainment and music.

Closing the festival at 9pm is the Rome date of the XXL tour by Elasi, the singer-songwriter, composer and producer from Alessandria who travels through real and imagined worlds, an explosion of sound with no geographical or stylistic boundaries, fluid and vividly colourful. Elasi has developed remote collaborations with ethnic musicians from various backgrounds (from Mali to Brazil, from India to Armenia); her latest work, "OASI ELASI", is a thoroughly danceable journey, full of beguiling, energy-charged world-electro-art-pop sounds.
