Chameleons: the post-punk champions play live in Italy for two dates

12-04-2026

One of British post-punk's pivotal outfits, the Chameleons, are returning to Italy. The Manchester band are presenting their new album, released after twenty-five years, “Arctic Moon“, on a tour that this autumn will also touch down in Italy for two dates: 15 November in Rome (Largo Venue) and 16 November in Bologna (Locomotiv Club). Ticket information at this link.

Formed in 1981 when singer and bassist Mark Burgess, guitarists Reg Smithies and Dave Fielding, and drummer John Lever came together, the Chameleons established themselves as one of the most iconic outfits in British post-punk, even as they remained an underground cult for years. Their discography includes landmarks such as the essential debut album “Script Of The Bridge” (1983), followed by “What Does Anything Mean? Basically” (1985) and “Strange Times” (1986).

After a lengthy split and a few sporadic reunions, the British band released “Why Call It Anything” in 2001, which until now had remained their last studio album.

The Chameleons embodied one of British post-punk's experiences that was at once least known and most significant. Their interweaving keyboards and guitars, their dreamy reverbs and romantic melodies captured the downcast spirit of their era, exerting no small influence on the dream-pop, shoegaze and nu-new wave generations that followed (Interpol above all). An unlucky, underground story that time is now finally bringing back into the light.
